What (who) is dual ported - definition

TYPE OF RANDOM-ACCESS MEMORY
DPRAM; Dual port RAM; Dual ported RAM; Dual-port RAM; Dual-port memory

dual ported
A term used to describe memory integrated circuits which can be accessed simultaneously via two independent address and data busses. Dual ported memory is often used in video display hardware, especially in conjunction with Video Random Access Memory (VRAM). The two ports allow the video display hardware to read memory to display the contents on screen at the same time as the CPU writes data to other areas of the same memory. In single-ported memory these two processes cannot occur simultanteously, the CPU must wait, thus resulting in slower access times. Cycle stealing is one technique used to avoid this in single-ported video memory. (1995-01-12)
Dual-ported RAM
Dual-ported RAM (DPRAM) is a type of random-access memory that allows multiple reads or writes to occur at the same time, or nearly the same time, unlike single-ported RAM which allows only one access at a time.
Dual space

The addition +′ induced by the transformation can be defined as ''<math>[\Psi(x_1) +' \Psi(x_2)](\varphi) = \varphi(x_1 + x_2) = \varphi(x)</math>'' for any ''<math>\varphi</math>'' in the dual space.
VECTOR SPACE OF LINEAR FUNCTIONALS (MAY CONSIST ONLY ON CONTINUOUS FUNCTIONALS OR OF ALL FUNCTIONALS)
Duality (linear algebra); Dual vector space; Algebraic dual; Continuous dual; Continuous dual space; Algebraic dual space; Norm dual; Double dual; Topological dual space; Dual (linear algebra); Annihilator (linear algebra); Dual Space
In mathematics, any vector space V has a corresponding dual vector space (or just dual space for short) consisting of all linear forms on V, together with the vector space structure of pointwise addition and scalar multiplication by constants.

Dual-ported RAM

Dual-ported RAM (DPRAM) is a type of random-access memory that allows multiple reads or writes to occur at the same time, or nearly the same time, unlike single-ported RAM which allows only one access at a time.

Video RAM or VRAM is a common form of dual-ported dynamic RAM mostly used for video memory, allowing the CPU to draw the image at the same time the video hardware is reading it out to the screen.

Apart from VRAM, most other types of dual-ported RAM are based on static RAM technology.

Most CPUs implement the processor registers as a small dual-ported or multi-ported RAM (see Register File).
